I’m currently reading the book of Joshua. It’s hard to want to read this book because I must face the truth: Moses is dead now. It’s over. There’s a new guy in town and, at first glance, it feels a little bit like the casting of a new Bachelor. How do you root for Colton when you've experienced Grocery Store Joe?
The book of Joshua begins with God basically saying: Ya boy Moses is dead. You’re up, son. It’s time to take back the land I promised to
these people you’re now leading.
And that’s likely all God had to say for Joshua to suit up and get ready to take back the land. But God is such a gentleman and he goes above and beyond to let Joshua know: you’re the guy for this job. I am not making a mistake. I am asking you. Only you.
He called Joshua by saying, “Be strong and courageous.” He said that 3 times because Joshua likely had a thick skull like all of us, prone to forgetting.
One of those times, he even goes so
far to emphasize: ONLY be strong and VERY courageous. Nothing else. Nothing less.
Guys.. bring so much dang stuff into the story. We bring fear into the story. We double fist worries. We haul in suitcases of doubt. We go above and beyond to add so much excess to whatever is coming next in our lives.
