Triumph over your grief by making memories a natural part of your life. Monday May 7, 2018 There isn’t a single person alive who is carefree. So, be careful who you envy. May God bless you with the virtue of self-satisfaction. This is the life you were meant to live. It's no better and no worse than anyone else's. It's your life and it is good. Very
good. IDOL WORSHIP
"I write about God so much because I think everything else in the world fails to fill."
by Hannah Brenchner
If you've hung around here long enough then you know I've sort of got a thing for Moses. You know, the guy from the Bible. Of all the people in the Bible that I admire- Moses is tops. I love the intimacy he shares with God. I love how he isn't afraid to let it all hang out- his doubts, worries & fears. I
love how he "does it anyway" in spite of those fears.
There's this one story in Exodus where Moses goes up to Mount Sinai to meet with God. He's up there on that mountaintop for 40 days and 40 nights. This is a pivotal meeting because it's also where Moses receives the 10 Commandments. While he's up there chilling with God, the people on the ground go ballistic. They lose their minds. They demand that Aaron, Moses' brother, would make them
something to worship. Aaron, who you think will be able to steer them in the right direction, does the opposite of what you'd expect: he gathers up their gold earring and bracelets and belongs and melts them down. He molds for the Israelites a golden calf to worship.
As you can only imagine, Moses is livid when he comes down the mountaintop. He's so mad that he smashes those tablets of commandments into two. He calls out Aaron
immediately and Aaron plays dumb, saying, "Yeah, I collected all the gold and threw it into the fire... and then a golden calf came out of it."
I love reading this story. It makes me realize how very human I am. I could look at these people in the Bible and say, "These guys are IDIOTS. How come they can't sit still for 5 seconds? Why do they need to make something to worship?" I could do that. Instead, I often read the story and think, "That's me. That's all of us. I think
I am so above this story but I am not actually... I fit right in."
Someone asked a few weeks ago if I could write about how we shift human beings into idols. I don't know how it happens- I just know it does. We are wired to worship. It's in our DNA. We look for things and people to admire. It's why we spend hours scrolling through the feeds of celebrities, wanting to know what brand they are wearing and at what restaurants they're eating...READ MORE I will thank God constantly throughout the day and negative thoughts will have no room to grow. |
HEALING
My 27 year old grandson has been plagued with a stomach ailment that has yet to be found. He has had another episode and was near death last week. He is stable right now but with no answers. He has no health insurance and is going so far in debt he will never recover. He needs, prayers and
strength to go on. - Lorraine J. |
