Sunrise Reflections
It was different on this Wednesday. The clocks were recently moved forward to daylight savings
time, yet nature hadn't quite caught up with her longer days.
I drove in darkness to the chapel for morning prayer. The service began with the night sky blanketing the windows as we prayed.
Shelly sat next to me as usual. She nudged me about fifteen minutes in. I looked up and saw it: A breathtaking sunrise in pink, orange, and purples. Sitting in a sacred space,
reciting sacred prayers - it doesn't get much better than that. And then it did.
The Rabbi stopped his chanting. "Get up" he demanded to the worshippers on the right side of the aisle. "Walk over to the windows and let's all take in the beauty of the sunrise in silent prayer."
Isn't this what God intended? A moment in community, watching the sun rise, words of
sacred text still lingering on our tongues. Ah, blessed peace.
