Hello, dear prayer family,
Indulge me for a couple of minutes while I tell you about a miracle, and then we'll pray.
I was at an early prayer service this morning. It was in the chapel. The chapel has one wall of glass
with the lower half frosted and etched with words from the Bible. Above that are clear windows with only the sky peeking through three narrow panes of glass.
Keep that in mind.
Before the service began there was the usual chit chat among the group of people who came to pray. The woman next to me shared a story about her grandmother, a dear woman who lived to be a
104.
Before her death, the old woman was interviewed by a young boy who asked her what she thought was the most important invention of her lifetime. He was sure she'd say computers.
She surprised him. She had two answers.
Her first response came quickly; "the washing machine". She came from Russia where
she would scrub the family's clothes by hand with a washboard, brush, and a bar of soap. She loved the convenience of the modern day washing machine.
She was more thoughtful about a second important invention. "The airplane." She explained. "It's a miracle to fly in the clouds. To be able to get on a plane and visit friends and family. I took trips to places I never dreamed that I could see. And then after, I could come back home
again."
My prayer mate finished her little story and it was time to pray.
Then, just minutes later, we both looked up from our prayer books at the exact time, and saw the miracle of flight through the chapel's upper windows. A flock of birds flying south for the winter. And then another. And another. Three flocks of birds, three reminders that flight is
a miracle.
We can fly in a plane, We can watch birds fly, we can let our imaginations take flight. God gives us the gift of flight and we should use it to travel the world, and come home again.
Thank You God for miracles. Thank You God for new inventions and the awareness of how blessed we are, to live in a time when
we can fly.
