In any given week, Kelly Payton’s fifth grade students might read newspaper articles about immigration or Syrian refugees or climate change. Sometimes she assigns them the same stories, other times they’re instructed to
go online and like the rest of the news-consuming world, click on the headlines that most appeal to them.
By consuming current stories about the concerns and plights of others, Payton, a teacher at a public school in Union City, Calif., has noticed her students developing more empathy.

YOUR THREE NAMES
The ancient sages taught that a person has at least three names during a lifetime.
The name you parents gave you.
Parents choose names for a variety of reasons. They may name you after a special
relative or they may simply choose a name they like. The name you were given reflects your parents' wishes. You did not choose it. You have no choice but to be identified with it.
The name your friends call you.
You have a bit more control over the name your friends call you. Maybe it's a nickname that suits you, or a shortened version of your formal name. Yet, it too, often falls outside of your
control.
The name you earn.
You have complete control over how you live your life. The situations may differ, but your reaction shapes your character and therefore your good name. Your actions are meant to portray the image of God implanted within you.
When you are called by the Divine to render account for the way you used the gift of life
entrusted to you, the Good Lord Himself will reach out and lovingly speak your name.
