ARIZONA STATE BASKETBALL PLAYER GIVES BIRTH TO HER TWIN SISTER'S TWINS
Jill Noe still ranks among Arizona State's top 10 in career assists.
But last week, Noe delivered the biggest assist of her life, delivering twins that she carried as a surrogate for her sister, Whitney, who cannot have children.
Noe and Whitney Bliesner, who celebrate their 35th birthdays on Saturday, first talked publicly about their shared pregnancy with The Republic in late March. The extraordinary gift that Noe offered to her sister, who has endured six brain surgeries due to Neurofibromatosis type 2, touched many and became a national story.
Noe's pregnancy went as planned with the babies being born by Caesarean delivery in Portland, Ore., on June 7. Rhett was born first, at 7 pounds, 11 ounces, followed by his sister, Rhenley, 4 pounds, 13 ounces. (While researching names, Whitney hit on Rhenley first then after family brainstorming, Rhett won out as the best matching name.)
Whitney was in the delivery room with Jill while others including Whitney's husband, Pete, anxiously waited for the arrivals.
"It was crazy to see it all coming to an end," Whitney said. "She produced these healthy babies and did her job very, very well. I'm very proud of her and amazed at her doing this for me. Now she can have her life back."
Noe is naturally sore and somewhat swollen but otherwise doing well. Whitney planned on feeding the babies formula, but Noe has insisted on providing breast milk for them by pumping and storing it...
