SHOW UP + SERVE
I seriously cannot stress this enough. When you are in a space of discontent or feeling like you’re serving no purpose where you’re at, people can feel that. People can feel the energy you’re bringing into a room or a workplace when you’re busy telling yourself you’d rather be somewhere else.
But there’s a purpose in this place. There is a purpose in the daily grind. There is a purpose in the job you don’t want to do. There is a purpose when it comes to your coworkers. There is a purpose when it comes to your boss. How can you care so much about living out your purpose when you show up to work convinced you cannot serve a purpose right where you are?
When I worked for a nonprofit after college, the best days were the ones where I kept my head up and had a good attitude. Those were the days I didn’t spend hours in my cubicle wondering if I mattered. When I decided to be content right where I was, people would come by my desk to talk. They would come by my desk to ask for advice. They would want to engage in conversations with me. When I was busy throwing myself a pity party for one, everyone could feel my energy was off.
I barricaded myself from being an influence and a light to other people when I got stuck in my own head.
Give yourself grace for the days where you just feel stuck. Allow yourself to feel all the feels. But the best way to push past those feelings is to think about serving others. To put others at the forefront and take them into consideration.
People need to light you bring into the spaces you’re required to be. Don’t miss that chance to be something bright to someone who needs it.
