THE FAITHFUL TEACHER
Once, a faithful teacher roamed the country to spread the Good Word.
He arrived in a new town and looked for a boarding house to sleep in for the night. The boarding house was full, and the woman who ran the establishment recommended the teacher go down the road to a local inn.
At the inn, the innkeeper told the weary traveler he had no rooms to offer.
“There’s a farmer up the road who has an extra bedroom he rents out – you can try and see if it’s available.”
The teacher trudged up a worn path to the farmhouse knocked on the door to find that another visitor was using the extra bedroom.
The sun was setting; the teacher had come a far way only to find himself on a rural road flanked by fields.
His worldy possessions were a chicken and the stub of an often-used wax candle.
“All that God does, God does for the good.” He said, looking up to the heavens.
It was a chilly night. He lay down in a wheat field, and his chicken pecked at some fallen grains. The teacher lighted the candle to warm his cold hands.
The wind kicked up and extinguished the tiny flame, his one source of heat. Then a wolf came by, snatched up the scrawny chicken, and ate it whole.
The teacher once again said, “All that God does, God does for the good.”
The next day when the teacher returned to the town, he found it ransacked and empty. It turned out that night, the Cossacks came and captured the town’s residents.
The teacher was spared. Neither candle nor chicken could have called attention to the teacher sleeping in the nearby field.
We learn from the faithful teacher’s story that even negative happenings can happen for a reason.
Remember to thank God the next time you face adversity. It may be your saving grace in the end.
