Â
IS IT HOLY HUMOR OR A PARABLE?
You be the judge.
Â
William was a business owner who travelled out of town for a customer meeting. He brought along Harry, his best salesman.Â
Â
They had a productive visit and the night before they were scheduled to leave, William had a heart attack
while having dinner with Harry.
Â
An ambulance was called, and Harry stayed by his boss's side in the emergency room. The doctor told William the prognosis was very bad, and he should try to straighten his affairs as the end was near.
Â
"Harry, tell my wife and children I love them. I want you to run the business, and for compensation, you can give my wife whatever you want."
Â
He passed away within the hour.
Â
The arrangements were made to send the body back to William's family, and a funeral was held where the beloved husband, father, and business owner was buried, honored, and mourned.
Â
Harry met with the attorney and told him of William's request that Harry take over the business and his boss's instructions to "give my wife whatever you want."Â
Â
"I want 90% of the business, William's widow can have 10%" he told the
attorney.
Â
When William's wife was told of the arrangement, she was devastated. She called her pastor and told him what happened. He suggested that both parties get together to discuss the financial arrangements.
Â
Once the three had gathered, the pastor said to Harry, "Tell me exactly what William told you to do as he lay dying in the hospital."Â
Â
"William told me to tell his wife and children that he loves them." Then
he told me, "'I want you to run the business, and for compensation, you can give my wife whatever you want.'"
Â
The pastor confirmed, "Are you absolutely sure that's what William said?"
Â
"Yes, I am. In fact, I recorded it on my phone, just to be sure there were no misunderstandings."
Â
Harry played the recording for the pastor and the widow, and sure enough, it was William's voice saying precisely what Harry had insisted
were William's wishes.
Â
"And, you want to follow William's instructions exactly?"
Â
"Yes, I do Pastor."
Â
"And you said to the attorney that you want 90% to run the business leaving 10% for the family. Is that correct?"
Â
"Yes, it is
Pastor."
Â
"It's clear in the eyes of God, that when William said 'Give my wife whatever YOU want, ' and then you went on to declare You wanted 90% then that's the amount due to his widow. The amount YOU want is what is to be hers."
Â
He offered congratulations to the widow as the new owner of William's company, and also to Harry, who runs the business for 10% of profits.
Â
And that's the way business is settled, in the eyes
of God, with intent pure and right.
