STANDING AND WAITING
There once was a great sage, brilliant,
respected, and beloved by all the people in the country. They would come from near and far to get his good counsel and receive his blessings.
When they arrived in the village where the sage held court, the people would join the long line of petitioners waiting to have an audience with the enlightened
man.
The multitudes stood for hours patiently waiting for their turn.
There was a young woman who endured the hot sun and dusty conditions until finally, it was her turn to make her request. She was
shocked to see that the great man himself was not seated.
He was an elderly man, yet he stood all the while. There was no chair nearby, and it was clear that he had no intention of sitting during the audience.
"How do you do it, dear sage? How can you stand on your feet for all these long hours, days and weeks? Don't you get tired?"
His answer was a lesson in itself. "My dear, when counting diamonds, one never gets
tired."
