STORY OF A HERO AND HIS PSALMS SONG
Something beautiful happened in the Holy Land recently.
In August of 2023, an Israeli school principal named Yossi Hershkowitz inspired his students to raise money to restore a Bible scroll that was damaged in the Holocaust.
The purpose of the project was to honor a municipal security patrolman, Chen Amir, who had been recently killed in a Tel Aviv terrorist attack.
And then, October 7
happened.
There was a war in Gaza, and Yossi Hershkowitz left his family and his students to defend his country.
Major-Sargent Hershkowitz was unique in his role as a soldier, educator, mentor, and musician. He raised people’s spirits through example, teachings, and song—including composing an original melody for the 23rd Psalm when he was literally "walking in a valley of deepest darkness."
Yossi was killed on November 10, 2023, about two weeks into the ground offensive in Gaza that began on October 27.
It's 2025, and the Bible scroll is complete. The students and their families and Yossi's widow and five children delivered it to Chen Amir's family.
Here is the whole story and song.
