EVERYTHING IS FOR THE BEST
The king went hunting with his favorite advisor, who was known to always say, “Everything is for the best.”
On that fateful day, the advisor to the king took a shot at some game and accidentally blew off the king’s finger.
Naturally, the king was furious, and while yelping in pain, his advisor said, “Everything is for the best.”
“For the best?” The King roared. “You blew off my finger, and you’re
telling me it’s for the best?!”
The advisor said nothing more, and when they returned to the castle, the king had him locked up in the dungeon.
Ten years later, the king is on a hunting trip alone, and cannibals surround him. They take the king back to their village and tell him he will be boiled alive and eaten.
When they prepare him for their feast, they notice the king is missing a finger. They release him immediately.
These cannibals will only eat people without blemishes.
The king remembers his advisor saying, “Everything is for the best.” He thanks God and rushes back to his castle, running down the stone steps to the dungeon where his advisor had languished for the past ten years.
“You saved me!” the king said to his advisor, and then he told him about the cannibals as he had the guards unlock the jail cell to release the advisor.
“I’m sorry for doubting you. Now I know you speak the truth. Everything is for the best. How can I repay you for these lost ten years?”
The advisor replied, “You don’t have to repay me. Everything is for the best. Had I been with you on that hunting trip, the cannibals would surely
have boiled me alive and eaten me for their supper. But instead, I was safe here, in the dungeon.”
There is a reason we trust in God’s plan. Even when you think the worst has happened, know everything is for the best.
