THE DRAFT
It's a big day for
Henry. He's expected to be a first-round pick in the NBA draft. Not only does it mean fame and money to be selected early in the draft process, it's a testament to one's talent - some might call it greatness.
Henry's life up to this point has been one outstanding achievement after another, and it's not just
basketball that has made Henry a star.
He graduated from the University of Illinois with honors in May. It's not an easy task for a student-athlete to ace college classes while starting and starring on a Big Ten university basketball team.
Henry is also involved in charitable work. He is active in his former high school's foundation. He volunteers his time to raise money for economically disadvantaged kids in the district who need financial assistance and social services.
Henry has it all. Henry does it all.
His mother woke up her son early in the morning on the day of the big NBA event.
"Henry," she whispered, "don't forget your morning prayers today of all days."
"You know I won't forget, Mama."
Dear God, thank You for my gifts. You blessed me with a mind of intellect, an able body, and a heart filled with love. Without You, Lord, I am nothing. Because of You, I am somebody. All praise to You - who made me as I am, who I am, and what I will be in a bright future. Amen
No petitions. No requests for an early selection. No mention of a preference for this team or another. Just a simple, humble thanks to his Maker, with confidence that whatever happens is God's will and recognition that his extraordinary talent can only come from God.
