GET OVER IT
John is a
businessman, a wealthy landowner, and a man of faith. He reads the Bible daily.
One day, a terrible fire broke out and ravaged every inch of John’s land. All the acres of timber that provided his income were destroyed.
Some of his friends heard of the disaster and decided they would break the news to John in a kind and compassionate way.
The three men went to John’s home. When they arrived, they
found him studying the Holy Bible and proceeded to tell him the terrible news.
“I know. I heard about it a half hour ago.” John told his friends.
One man asked, “You look so calm and peaceful. You said you’ve known about the fire for half an hour, yet you sit here reading the Bible as if you don’t have a care in the world.”
John looked at the man and said, “I remember you had a tough challenge with one of your
children about five years ago. At the time, you were beside yourself. Very upset and beyond consolation. Yet here you are, five years later, over it. The challenge is no longer a problem for you.
So I said to myself: eventually, I will get over it. And if I will get over it eventually, why not
get over it now? Why carry the pain and the agony for another five, or four, or three, two, one…years? Why carry pain at all when I trust that God will provide.”
The men left John’s home, buoyed by his positive attitude, reaffirming their own faith, knowing that God has a plan and it is always
good.
Face your challenges without regret. Look to the future with optimism and faith.
